Jeff Hutchins Named Lone Finalist by Hawkins ISD Board of Trustees

Hawkins ISD’s Board of Trustees unanimously voted on December 6, 2024, at a called board meeting to name Jeff Hutchins the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent. Per state law, there will be a 21-day waiting period before Mr. Hutchins can officially be hired as superintendent. The board anticipates that she will be officially hired on January 6th at their regular meeting.

Mr Hutchins has proven to be an outstanding educator during his 29-year career.  Early in his career, he was a successful teacher and coach, including an assistant basketball coach for the Van Vandals state championship team in 2005. He transitioned to administration in 2010, serving as Van High School principal for 12 years. In 2023, Mr Hutchins was named Region 7 Secondary Principal of the Year by the Texas Association of Secondary Principals.  He was promoted to Director of Operations in 2023 and has worked in that capacity for the last 18 months.

In a statement released by Mr Hutchins, he expressed his appreciation to the Board and his anticipation to join the Hawkins ISD Team:

“I am deeply honored and thrilled to be named as the Hawkins ISD Superintendent Lone Finalist.  I'm looking forward to this opportunity as I firmly believe that the heart of a strong school district lies in its people—the dedicated educators, passionate staff, engaged families, and, most importantly, the exceptional students of Hawkins ISD.

Together, we will continue to provide an environment where every child feels supported, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential. I am committed to listening, learning, and partnering with each of you to build on the district's strengths while embracing new opportunities for growth and innovation.

I am grateful for this opportunity to lead the Hawk Strong Community in soaring to new heights!”

The search to place Mr. Hutchins as superintendent was a partnership with Impact Education Specialists, an education consulting company made up of former and current Texas superintendents. The board worked closely with this group along with Hawkis teachers, administrators, and community members to find what they considered to be an exceptional fit for the district.

When asked about selecting Mr. Hutchins as Lone Finalist, School Board President, Blake Warren said, “The entire board is looking forward to working with Jeff.  We feel he will be a great leader by building relationships across the entire district.  Jeff is a proven administrator bringing many years of experience and stability.”

Mr. Hutchins is slated to assume superintendent responsibilities within the district in early January.
