Our school board is dedicated to fostering an environment where every student can achieve academic excellence and personal growth in a safe and supportive setting.
As elected representatives of our community, we are committed to making informed decisions that shape the future of our schools. Our responsibilities include:
- Policy Development: Crafting and implementing policies that promote high educational standards and equity.
- Budget Oversight: Ensuring that financial resources are allocated efficiently and effectively to support student learning and well-being.
- Superintendent Supervision: Collaborating with and providing oversight for the Superintendent to ensure the district's strategic goals are met.
- Curriculum and Instruction: Evaluating and approving curricula that meet the diverse needs of our students and prepare them for future success.
- Facilities Management: Overseeing the maintenance and improvement of school facilities to provide a safe and conducive learning environment.
- Community Engagement: Encouraging active participation from parents, students, teachers, and community members to foster a collaborative educational community.

About the Board of Trustees/Terms and Election Schedule
The Board shall consist of several members. Election of Board members shall be by place. General election of board member shall be on the May unifrom election date.
Board members shall be elected for three-year terms, with elections conducted annually, as follows:
The election for places 1, 2, and 3 shall be held in 2028, 2031, 2034, and in three-year intervals thereafter.
The election for places 4 and 5 shall be held in 2027, 2030, 2033, and in three-year intervals thereafter.
The election for places 6 and 7 shall be held in 2026, 2029, 2032, and in three-year intervals thereafter.
To be elected, a candidate must receive more votes than any other candidate for the place.
Following each election, the board elects a president, vice president, secretary and assistant secretary to serve for one year terms.
Application Process
Applications to file for a Position on the Hawkins ISD School Board Trustee General Election may be obtained at the Hawkins ISD Administration Office, 179 Hawk Drive, Hawkins, Texas, or on the Texas Secretary of State websiteSecretary of State. Applications must be signed under oath before a Notary and must be received in the Administration Office between 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2026, through Friday, February 13, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Candidates are also required to appoint a campaign treasurer and file the form with the Hawkis ISD Election Administrator before collecting or spending any funds on his/her campaign. Candidate’s Guide to Primary and General Elections
The Texas Election Code designates the Secretary of State as the chief election officer of the State of Texas. In order to provide information on the electoral process to all Texans, his office has prepared this guide in the expectation that increased information will result in increased participation.
According to the Texas Election Code, an individual is eligible to be a candidate for, elected, or appointed to, a Texas school if the individual:
- Is a United States citizen;
- Is 18 years of age on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable;
- Has not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate of jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated with the right to vote;
- Has not been finally convicted of a felony from which the individual has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities;
- Has resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months immediately proceeding the following dates:
- for an independent candidate, the date of the regular filing deadline for a candidate's application for a place on the ballot;
- for a write-in candidate, the date of the election at which the candidate's name is written in; or
- for an appointee to an office, the date the appointment is made;
- is registered to vote in the territory from which the office is elected on the date described at 5 above; and
- satisfies any other eligibility requirements prescribed by law for the office.

Requests for ballots by mail must be received no later than April 20, 2026, before the close of regular business or 5:00pm, whichever is later. Early voting by personal appearance will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026 through Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 8:00am to 5:00pm on each day that is not a Saturday or Sunday.
